Smartcat launches WPML integration for localizing WordPress websites

Great news for all WordPress users: Smartcat now offers its clients seamless WordPress integration via the WPML plugin. With just a click of a button, you can send whole pages, or snippets of your content from within WordPress directly to Smartcat for translation.

The beauty of this new feature is that all this is done without you needing to leave the WordPress platform. This solution allows you to get high-quality translations of your materials without breaking the bank.

Why translate your website at all?

Localization is essential to reach out to international audiences. Common Sense Advisory reports that for 56.2% of consumers the ability to obtain information in their language is more important than price, while 65% of global market leaders believe localization is essential to boosting company revenues.

What is WPML?

WPML is a WordPress plugin that makes WordPress sites run multilingual. It is the most popular and reliable plugin of its kind on the market with over 1,255,000 users to date. Using WPML requires no technical or programming skills. Site owners can install it and turn their site multilingual without any coding.

What is Smartcat?

Smartcat is an all-in-one platform connecting businesses and translators into a streamlined content delivery loop. From content integration to team management to new vendor hiring to translation production to payments, Smartcat covers the whole cycle companies need to get their content multilingual.

How does the Smartcat-WPML integration work?

Essentially, it allows you to send your Wordpress content to Smartcat with a click of a button and get it back after translation in the same manner. Read more under Configuring and using the integration below.

How is it better than just translating right in WPML?

Smartcat provides technologies that make translations easier and higher-quality — either for you or for your vendor of choice. This includes:

  • Translation memories. Say, you changed a bit in your article here or there, and now you have to update all of its translations. Smartcat “remembers” your previous translations, so you don’t have to translate everything from scratch or to guess which parts changed. You — or your vendors — will just have to translate the new bits.
  • Terminology. If you pass your content over for translation to different people and/or at different times, there’s a high chance that translations of the same terms will be different, and a mess to read. With Smartcat, you can ensure that the terminology is always consistent, in all languages.
  • Machine translation. With Smartcat, you can use various machine translation engines to provide a rough draft for translators to work on. This will make the process faster and less expensive.
How is it better than hiring a translation vendor?

Smartcat is a vendor-agnostic platform that allows you a plentitude of options: translate yourself or with your volunteers, hire a translation agency, or find a bunch of freelancers. In the two last cases, you can find vendors right here on the platform, using the built-in LSP/freelancer marketplace.

Besides, when you hire a translation vendor outside Smartcat, you’ll most likely have to write lots of emails to just set up the process, not to mention that the process itself will be hidden from you. You will just have to rely on that vendor until they send you out the result. On Smartcat, you do all the order-setting process in a few clicks, and can track the progress and deliverables in real time.
