PDF Translation Agent: Now Translates Design-Heavy PDFs Even Better — Without Losing the Layout

We've launched a brand-new version of our PDF Translation Agent that translates the text inside your design-heavy PDFs and rebuilds the file so it looks exactly like the original. No more manual reformatting after translation. The PDF Translation Agent does the heavy lifting.
For teams who live in visual documents
The PDF Translation Agent helps you translate brochures, catalogs, infographics, sales sheets, point-of-sale materials, and scanned documents while keeping every element of the design in place. It's built for documents where the layout matters as much as the words — light on text, heavy on visuals.
What's new
Translate text in place
The PDF Translation Agent identifies the text within each design element, and translates it where it sits — inside headlines, callouts, captions, and graphics.
Rebuild with the layout intact
After translation, Smartcat rebuilds the visual asset with the translated copy fitted to the original design, so the output mirrors the source file instead of breaking it.
Built for design and scanned PDFs
Marketing collateral, brochures, catalogs, infographics, sales sheets, point-of-sale materials, and scanned documents are all in scope — exactly the files that general-purpose tools corrupt.
Translation memory and glossary
Unlike generic machine translation, Smartcat applies your translation memory and glossary, keeping terminology and brand language consistent across every document — making the whole process far easier than the alternatives.
How it works
Create a new Project in Smartcat, select up to 280 different languages.
Go to Files & upload your PDF — Add the brochure, catalog, sales sheet, or scanned document you need translated.
Smartcat reads the design — The Image pipeline identifies text within the design elements across each page.
Translate in place — Text is translated using AI, your translation memory, and your glossary. Make edits in Smartcat Editor.
Get a layout-matched file — Smartcat rebuilds the asset with translated copy fitted to the original design, ready to use.
Note: This capability is purpose-built for design-heavy and scanned PDFs. It is not designed for high-volume text extraction or long, text-heavy documents — dedicated pipelines for those are on the way.
