I have been doing translations since 2006. I'm also running a translation agency, however that's a separate business, and you can be sure that all translations at smartcat are done by me personally. I am a certified translator, conference interpreter, engineer and Candidate of technical sciences (kandidat nauk). Extensive experience in: – technical literature translation (general technology, production equipment, transport, communications equipment and systems; IT technologies and systems: measuring and computing equipment; medical translations – therapy, diagnostics, pharmacology, medical equipment) etc. from Russian into English and from English into Russian; – developing technical documentation (user and service guides, instruction booklets, user interfaces etc., incl. in accordance with international methods and standards); – writing articles, essays, advertising texts, reviews, presentations, participating in conferences and shows. Skills and capabilities: Windows and Mac office software skills, some experience in software development environments. Experience with Adobe InDesign page setting, document and publication creation (guides, catalogs, posters, leaflets), digital image (drawings, diagrams etc.) editing and retouching in Adobe Photoshop.

I do not have a linguistic education, but in the process of my education, working as a lecturer, a researcher and an IT manager (up to CIO), I very often had to apply my knowledge of English for reading and translating English literature and documentation. Since 2017, translation has become the main activity for me. In this work I always try to achieve a meaningful result. Machine translation is mostly not used, although occasionally I resort to it, if the subject allows. I intensively use the CAT-system tools: translation memory, glossaries, concordance search. In the search for translations of terms I use all available means taking into account the context. I can aloso translate into another direction (English) but it's a torture for me because I'm not native in it.
