My name is Vanessa Walsh and I'm currently working as a freelance translator and language teacher in Bavaria, Germany. I have an MA in Translation Sciences from the University of Heidelberg in Germany and a BA from Queen's University in Canada in Foreign Languages and Intl. Studies (French/German). I grew up in Ontario, Canada, and English is my mother language. I have many years of immersion in my source languages, years of uninterrupted translation experience, and an excellent command of English, my target language. I specialize in medical translation. I hold a B.A. (Languages) degree, two Project Management diplomas and a certificate in html/css and web design, as well as a TEFL diploma, amongst others. I have excellent time management skills, outstanding attention to detail and a highly professional work ethic. ​I have been editing and proofreading university theses, novel and literature manuscripts, newsletter and other publications on a freelance basis since 2002. Fluent in English, Afrikaans and German, with a strong proficiency in Dutch, I offer multiple professional linguistic services. I was employed as a Marketing and Communications Specialist in South Africa for Investec Bank, Commercial Union and Mutual & Federal. After moving to New Zealand, I became the online marketing and communications manager for Spicers Wealth Management in Auckland, followed by senior online communications manager for Tower Financial Advisory Services. I relocated permanently to Ireland in 2012, and am based in Dublin city.

I am a languages student from Northern Ireland, studying Spanish and Portuguese. I may not be fully qualified, but I am now looking to fill my time with more translation due to the fact that I had to return home during my Erasmus year due to the COVID-19 outbreak. I still am continuing with my classes from my host university (Porto, in Portugal) and am currently studying a translation module so I am familiar with CAT software and the proper protocol for translation.

I am a professional translator focusing on medical and scientific translations from German and Spanish to English (both UK and US). Additionally, I am also a professor at a German university teaching English as a Foreign Language to scientific and medical students.

I grew up in the USA, before moving to the Netherlands in 2004. I started translating with an opera script, that I also helped edit, which encouraged me to start my own freelance business. Since then I have done subtitling in addition to translation of many different types of documents. I've done company films, marketing and pr films and documents, as well as recipes, menus, websites and many other things.

WHO I AM: Bilingual since birth I have always had an immence interest in two things: Music and Languages. Throughout my life i had many opportunities and demands to perform translation tasks on a personal and a professional level as well as privatly teaching languages. My translation experience spanns from simple e-meil and daily communications translations to academic translations. While bieng a professional composer i have gained great skill of holding myself to the deadline and demanding the highest standard of work. I am resoursful and an exceptionally quick learner, so no job would be too tough. MY LANGUAGES: Native: English, Russian. Aquired: Swedish (fluent), German (working proficiency), Finnish (working proficiency). WHAT I DO (APART FROM TRANSLATIONS): Proofreading and editing of any written work in English (including academic works). Adaptation to UK-English (native). Script proofreading and editing and fortmating (English only!).
