# 101 and 102 matches in CAT tools – what are they?

When going through a [translation memory](https://www.smartcat.com/blog/what-is-translation-memory-tm/), a [CAT](https://www.smartcat.com/blog/what-is-a-cat-tool/) tool may identify some [segments](https://www.smartcat.com/blog/what-is-segment/) as having 101% or 102% matches. Although this looks weird, it is not an error: A 102% match means that not only *the current* segment is identical to the one stored in the TM, but also the segments *before* and *after* it. Respectively, a 101% match means that *either* the preceding *or* subsequent segments are identical. Together, these two segments before and after any given segment are referred to as its *context*.
